Momo (Nepali Dumplings)

  • Ingredients:
    • For the dough:
      • 2 cups all-purpose flour
      • 1/2 tsp salt
      • 1/2 cup water
    • For the filling:
      • 1/2 lb ground chicken or pork
      • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
      • 1 tbsp minced garlic
      • 1 tbsp minced ginger
      • 1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
      • 1/2 cup finely chopped carrot
      • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
      • 1 tbsp soy sauce
      • Salt and pepper
  • Directions:
    1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add water and knead until you have a smooth and elastic dough.
    2. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
    3. In another mixing bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, ginger, cabbage, carrot, cilantro, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
    4. Roll out the dough into thin circles, about 3 inches in diameter.
    5. Place a small amount of filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough in half and pinch the edges together to seal the dumpling.
    6. Place the dumplings in a steamer basket and steam for 10-12 minutes until cooked through.
    7. Serve hot with a dipping sauce made of soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil. Enjoy your homemade momos!
